There's nothing like getting outdoors with the whole family to get a breath of fresh air, stretch your legs and walk off some of the holiday weight. Below we have covered some gentle walks on the island, so that even the youngest tots requiring prams can join in on the fun too!
Bowen Road
This fitness trail is popular amongst runners, with fitness stations dotted along the trail. The trail follows a road a majority of the way, so you will need to be vigilant for the occasional car, but the smooth concrete, surface means that it's suitable for families coming with prams. The Bowen Road Park, makes for a great little pitstop for the kids, with the neighbouring Lover's Rock, making a great little detour.

Harbourfront
Thanks to the new pet-inclusive parks initiative, dog walkers can now happily walk along the entire length of the harbour front, uninterrupted, from Sai Ying Pun to Tin Hau. The newly developed areas, particularly between Wan Chai to Tin Hau, make it a lovely affair for the whole family, with fun play stations, paddle boat hire, and cute seating areas complete with statues and viewing points, for everyone to enjoy the fragrant harbour in all its glory.

Mills & Chung Path
This paved, coastal walk from Repulse Bay to Deep Wave Bay makes for a lovely stroll for the whole family, and is popular amongst dog walkers and runners. This gentle path takes roughly 25 to 30 minutes, and if you end at The Pulse, you have several dog-friendly restaurants to choose from, along with a small non-gazetted beach behind the Tin Hau and Kwun Yum Statues for the dogs.

The Peak Circle Walk
This 3.5km scenic walk around Victoria Peak offers stunning views over the city and is a popular walk amongst tourists, meaning it can get busy on weekends. You can occasionally get the odd car driving down the narrow roads, but this gentle circular walk at one of Hong Kong's most iconic spots, makes for a lovely family walk, and is also pram-friendly for those joining with younger children. Pik Shan Path
This sheltered walk just off Kotewall Road is a great introduction to hiking for kids, mixed with some dirt paths and concrete walkways, in the thick of the forested mountainside. It's 3.5km to the falls, which takes roughly one hour, however, if you want to press on for a slightly more challenging hike, you can finish at the Pok Fu Lam reservoir for a 6.5km walk. Although the pools make for a refreshing dip for the dogs, do be careful about allowing your dogs to drink from these waters as this area has been known.

Red Incense Burner Summit
This relatively gentle walk involves a mix of concrete path and dirt trail, with some gentle inclines at parts. Its proximity to Braemar Hill means it is an easy walk to access, offering stunning views over the city.
The neighbouring Braemar Hill Shopping Centre, also makes for a great pit stop post-hike to refuel at one of the al fresco (and therefore dog-friendly) canteens or coffee shops.

Sir Cecil's Ride
This lovely walk between Mount Butler and Wong Nai Chung Reservoir is a gentle walk through the hills and can take 45 minutes one way, or an hour and a half, there and back.
It comes out just below the Wong Nai Chung Reservoir, where you can rent paddle boats, making room for more family-friendly activities.

Tai Tam Circular Walk
This 3.3km circular trail offers stunning views over Tai Tam reservoir, and is a favourite amongst families, as it follows a paved route most of the way, making it pram-friendly for families coming with younger children.
This gentle one hour stroll is idyllic for families, or those looking to have a lazy day stroll away from the city, with stunning views of the reservoir and surrounding hillside.

We love exploring the great outdoors, and we love dogs, and together, we think the combination is just unbeatable! As a way to connect explorers and their dogs, we hosted our first ever trip on a weekday in July 2020, to explore a small, remote island in Sai Kung, and a whopping 27 people and their dogs showed up! Since then, we have been hosting monthly excursions on the first Saturday of every month to explore different parts of Hong Kong, all whilst raising money for our local animal shelters, as a way to give back and support the community that gave us these wonderful hiking companions to begin with! |
